The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover and mop hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention. It leaves your floors spotless. Its price is surprisingly low and features that are high-end (such as dirt detection) are pluses.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic cleaner and mop vacuums we have test. They have motors that are top of the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. And, like other premium iRobot models (including the top pick) they utilize intelligent mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also come with carpet boost, a feature which boosts the robot's power when it spots a lot of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned up quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept in removing dog hair. They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our top option. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to getting stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and operates while you are at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle however. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad for a dry one in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with strong suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to ensure better cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and customize zones using the app that is well-designed. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a carpeted room, which helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is perfect to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot automatic vacuum cleaner and mop/mop that could complete the entire house with only 66 percent of its battery left. It did a good cleaning job on a variety of flooring and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds and cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically empties into its base, and supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky models of the rivals. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with an easy mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's a noisy unit, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however it will cost you more and create more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and cleans and drys mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and spot obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home according to the amount of dirt they are.

For larger homes, it's worth opting for one with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home by using the app or via voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. Also the recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than the price suggests. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using only one pad and a rotating motion that cleans better that most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tested. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, plan a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app offers a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. And you can set up a spot cleaning that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
