BMW Ghost immobiliser ghost

The Ghost utilizes the CAN data bus to communicate with your vehicle. This prevents thieves from replacing the ECU or installing a new lock to bypass the security system.

It works by utilising the factory buttons of your vehicle to create an individual sequence of pushes that only you can recognize, similar to like the pin code security on your mobile phone. When parked at your home or in a meet and greet in a meeting and greet situation, the Ghost can be set to service mode. This allows you to start the vehicle using your keys, but it stops the engine from restarting until the correct code has been entered. This is ideal for customers who have to hand their vehicles over to valet services or other trusted friends and family members. It also allows you to bring the vehicle into the garage for repairs, maintenance etc without worrying about it being damaged or stolen by a mechanic whilst you wait.

Anti-Hijack

It's designed to stop thieves from putting in an ignition key or replacing the ECU to start your car and drive it off. Ghost connects to your CAN network and utilizes buttons on your vehicle to create an unique push-sequence which must be entered before the engine can start.

This will activate the anti-hijack function and, once it is activated, any attempt to start the engine will be blocked. The system will sharpen the horn flashing the indicators, and stop the vehicle when the code isn't found. The Anti-Hijack feature can be disabled by entering your push sequence or by enabling service mode, which allows your vehicle to temporarily start and drive without needing to enter your PIN.

If you own an GPS device linked up to your BMW it could be used to cancel the Anti-Hijack feature, allowing you to still use the navigation system in your car when the vehicle is parked not being watched. The Ghost can be installed under the dashboard, or in the centre console. It is completely concealed, tamperproof, and doesn't require any additional wiring. The device is connected to the vehicles CAN Data Network (similar to an Ethernet cable) and a personalised PIN code is inserted into it. The pin code needs to be entered prior to the engine's start. This prevents thieves from bypassing the system using a cloned or replaced ECU.

If the vehicle is stolen and the Ghost will enter a service mode that disables all functions until the PIN code is entered, or you make use of the mobile app to disarm it.
