The iRobot Roomba 980 Robot Vacuum Cleaner

Robot vacuums remove pet hair, lint and dust from the floor before they settle. They also help stay clear of stairs and other obstacles, including tippy furniture.

The majority of robotic Vacuums Robot require regular maintenance. This includes emptying the bin (and occasionally, rinsing it) and wiping the cameras and sensors. They also need to be plugged in. Many come with smartphone applications to schedule, adjust settings and more.

iRobot Roomba 980

The iRobot Roomba 980 is the most recent in the series of top-of-the-line robot vacuum cleaners that are a staple in any modern home. This model is incredibly powerful suction as well as a HEPA filter that can help anyone concerned about allergies. It also has a powerful battery which can be cleaned for up to two hours before returning to its dock automatically when the bin is full.

It also comes with an option called smart mapping, which makes use of multiple sensors to suss out the areas of your home that need attention and make a tidy path around them. We've seen this technology in action and it does an excellent job of maneuvering around toys that have been left scattered on the floor, or furniture legs that stick out from under things. Roomba also has a sensor that will snap Roomba back to reality when it starts to move away from its initial location.

iRobot also added the option of rolling rollers under the Roomba that do not have bristles, and are therefore more likely to resist knots than earlier models. These are also a little higher than the older rollers and are able to fit under beds and couches that are low and are designed to let this model move more easily on varying floor types.

The Roomba 980 differs from other models of high-end quality due to its latest dirt detection feature that makes use of cameras to detect embedded dirt. This is a significant improvement over the previous model, that relied on the sensor-driven pseudorandom coverage technique to bounce around a room and clean it at minimum three times from various angles.

The Roomba 980 performed well in our tests on both carpets and hard floors. Its score on low pile carpet was excellent and it also scored a high score on mid pile too. It did a good job picking up pet hair however it struggled with the long and Vacuums Robot thick pet hair that was stuck together.

The Roomba 980 is still one of the best performing robots on our list, despite these minor limitations. It's also not as expensive as other top-of-the-line models. It still has a lot of features we'd expect to see in a flagship model, but it doesn't have all the fancy app-enabled functions or smart vacuum cleaner home integration that you'll find in other top models.

The iRobot Roomba can be set up in a matter of minutes and is ready for use immediately. After you have removed the pull tab for the battery and yellow bin insert from undercarriage, all you need to do is plug it into its Home Base docking station or a wall socket, hit its big "Clean" button, and let it go to work. It will automatically return to its dock when its battery runs out or it's full of debris. It also has indicators on the top to indicate when its bin is full, it's time to recharge or its Wi-Fi signal has gone out.
